Landscaping and Ornamental Plants Gardening
The Landscape and Ornamental Plants Cultivation Program was first established in 1986 under the Department of Technical Programs as the Pruning and Grafting Program. Later, in 1990 it was renamed the Greenhouse Pruning and Grafting Program, in 1993 the Greenhouse Program, in 2006 the Greenhouse and Ornamental Plants Cultivation Program, in 2009 under the Department of Park and Garden Plants as the Ornamental Plants Cultivation Program, and in 2020, again under the Department of Park and Garden Plants, it was renamed by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) as the Landscape and Ornamental Plants Cultivation Program. In our program, along with core courses such as Plant Production Techniques, Plant Identification, Indoor and Outdoor Ornamental Plant Cultivation, Cut Flower Growing, Seasonal Flower Growing, Landscape Mechanization, Landscape Drawing and Project Preparation Techniques, Landscape Restoration and Maintenance Techniques, and Roof and Terrace Gardens, the curriculum also includes general courses such as Entrepreneurship, Communication, Organic Agriculture, and Environmental Issues. With this curriculum, the program aims to train graduates who are well-equipped in all aspects of the field.
A Landscape and Ornamental Plants Technician generally performs the following duties:
Conducts site surveys and prepares project drawings.
Takes part in the establishment of green areas, parks, and similar spaces, and in the planting and cultivation of saplings, flowers, and similar plants.
Ensures the completion of structures such as ornamental pools to be installed in the area.
Produces, maintains, manages pest control, harvests, and carries out sales processes of trees, shrubs, annual and perennial plants used in landscape applications, or ensures that these processes are carried out.
Supervises and guides the workers involved in the projects.
