In the Department of Virology, researches are carried out on the etiology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, prevention and control of viral infections seen in animals or zoonotic character. "Virology", "Basic Principles of Scientific Research and Publications", "Herd Health and Management", and "Viral Vaccines" courses are given for undergraduate education in the department. In our department, there are many completed and ongoing research projects and studies carried out with international cooperation. The main research area carried out in the department is on the molecular epidemiology of pestiviruses. In addition, herpesvirus infections and respiratory system infections of ruminants, coronavirus infections and herpesvirus infections of cats and dogs are among the study areas. In the laboratory of the department, service activities for the routine diagnosis of different animal diseases are also offered. In this context, along with the Animal Hospital and Research and Application Farm belonging to our Faculty, the demands from freelance veterinarians, public or private sector organizations are also met. In addition, training activities (seminars, meetings, courses, etc.) and practical laboratory training are provided for the field.

In the studies carried out in the laboratory of the Department of Virology, cell culture, serological tests, ELISA and PCR techniques are used. For this purpose, studies such as preparation of primary cell culture, production of viruses in cell cultures, purification, concentration, immunization studies in experimental animals, creation of ELISA protocols, etc. are carried out.
