HISTORY

Uludağ University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, in order to meet the need for veterinarians in Turkey and to contribute to the development of the livestock potential in Bursa and its region, in line with the opinions of the State Planning Organization and the objectives of the Development Plans, was established with the establishment decision taken at the meeting of the University Senate, which was named Bursa University in those years, on 14.05.1976.

Prof. Dr. Cemal Nadi AYTUĞ, a faculty member of Ankara University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, was appointed as the founding Dean of the Faculty, which started to serve on April 14, 1978 under Bursa University, and faculty members from Ankara University and Istanbul University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine were included in the first executive organs and education staff.


Education started on 20 November 1978 with 46 students in the Karapınar temporary facilities behind the Meat and Fish Institution; In those years, the Animal Hospital in Merinos in the city was transferred to the Faculty and the Clinical Unit was established. The Animal Health and Animal Production Research and Application Center, which was included in the investment program of the State Planning Organization in 1978, was established as a unit of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Uludağ University Agricultural Research and Application Center with the decision of the University Senate in 1986.


In 1994, the faculty moved from Karapınar to the new Education and Training Building in the Görükle Campus of the University. The foundation of the Clinical Sciences and Animal Hospital of the Faculty was laid in 2002 and moved at the beginning of 2008 and serves 24/7. The Animal Hospital has been inspected by the officials of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of the Republic of Turkey and has received the Animal Hospital License dated 20/12/2013-H-16. The construction of the new building of the faculty started in 2004 and was moved at the beginning of 2007. The foundation of the Student Complex and the Dean's Building was laid in 2005 and completed in 2010. Pathological, Microbiological, Virological, Parasitological, Genetic, Andrological, Pharmacological-Toxicological, Histology and Embryological and Aquaculture Diagnosis-Analysis Laboratories operating within our faculty have been licensed as "Veterinary Diagnosis and Analysis Laboratory" with the decision of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock dated 07.05.2014 and numbered TAL-24.


In the 2001-2002 academic year, the Faculty started to apply the Credit Education System and the Compulsory English Preparatory Class was introduced in the 2003-2004 academic year. As of the 2010-2011 academic year, minimum 30% English education has been started. Uludağ University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine passed the first evaluation process for accreditation in November 2004 by the European Association of Veterinary Education Institutions (EAEVE), of which it became a full member in 1992, and passed the second evaluation process in April 2008 and became conditionally accredited. The final evaluation was made by the EAEVE committee in April 2010 and it has been fully accredited since June 2010. In addition, our faculty has been accredited for 7 years by the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Veterinary Medicine Education Institutions and Programs (VEDEK), one of the accreditation associations of YÖK, since September 30, 2015.

 

Our faculty works together with academic staff, administrative staff and students to create an integrated quality culture. Accordingly, it has succeeded in obtaining the ISO 9001:2015 certificate on 31 August 2021.
