from the head of the department

Art is a necessity of being an individual within social life. As an integral part of humanity and the primary source of national culture, art carries culture from the past to the future. It provides individuals with the opportunity to express their feelings, thoughts, impressions, talents, and creative powers through aesthetic values in various fields. These expressions take place in various forms and reach society through artistic activities. The greatest asset that guides society through science and art, shapes the future of nations, and ensures national development is undoubtedly the teacher.

The Department of Art Education aims to train constructive, creative, and distinguished teachers who are sincerely committed to Atatürk's principles and revolutions, possess a sense of national and universal identity, are tolerant, fair, and embracing the culture of democracy, possess professional competence and sensitivity, are inquisitive, possess analytical and critical thinking, have developed communication skills, and are at peace with themselves and their environment. It also aims to conduct fundamental and applied, original scientific research in areas related to Fine Arts, Art Education, and education. Our department is committed to providing in-service training programs to relevant institutions on topics of public need, conducting research on topics relevant to institutions, and organizing scientific and artistic events to enlighten those working in educational institutions. We are committed to creating scientific, cultural, and artistic values and fulfilling our obligation to serve society at universal standards. With this sense of duty, our department continues its educational activities to train qualified students in the field of Art Education, possessing high professional skills and who will become Visual Arts Teachers in line with the demands of the present day.

Our department has seven of the nine Art Workshops recommended by the Council of Higher Education for inclusion in the Art Education Department programs. This is a privilege enjoyed by very few universities in our country. These are the Art Workshops for Painting, Graphic Design, Textile Design, Printmaking, Photography, Ceramics, and Sculpture. These workshops also serve as Elective Art Workshops, enabling prospective teachers to become more equipped in the field of Visual Arts. In addition to these practical courses, our students' instruction is complemented by formation and cultural courses, ensuring they graduate as qualified and high-quality art teacher candidates.

Our Department, which offers undergraduate and graduate education, is staffed by expert academic staff in our well-equipped building, frequently organizing high-level artistic, scientific, and cultural extracurricular activities to support the multifaceted development of our art teacher candidates. Our undergraduate students are offered dual-field and minor program opportunities, and Erasmus, Farabi, and Mevlana student exchange programs help our incoming and outgoing students gain diverse perspectives.

Our Department maintains its place among the top art education departments in Turkey, making it a preferred institution due to its high-level academic expertise. Furthermore, the success of our graduates in their careers as visual arts teachers, which we consider a reflection of our educational quality, further strengthens our strength and makes us proud.

To our Art Education Department family: I congratulate all candidates who have chosen to participate and plan to participate with the desire to become ideal Visual Arts teachers who will guide new generations to become individuals who know how to see art, understand it, and protect it, and who will illuminate their bright futures. I wish them continued success.
