         Lisans egitimini 1986'da Orta Dogu Teknik Üniversitesi psikoloji bölümünde, doktora egitimini 1992'de Dartmouth College'da bilissel psikoloji alaninda tamamlamistir. 1986-1988 yillari arasinda Purdue Üniversitesi'nde arastirma ve ögretim asistanligi, 1988-1991 yillari arasinda Dartmouth College'da ögretim asistanligi yapmis olan Prof. Dr. Hasan Gürkan Tekman, 1992'den 2005'e kadar Orta Dogu Teknik Üniversitesi'nde yardimci doçentlik, doçentlik ve profesörlük pozisyonlarinda bulunmustur. Uludag Üniversitesi Psikoloji Bölümü'ne tam zamanli olarak Ekim 2005'te katilmistir. 2011-2013 yillari arasinda Yasar Üniversitesi Psikoloji Bölümü'nde görev yapan Prof. Tekman, 2012-2013 Egitim-Ögretim Yili Bahar döneminde bölümümüzde yari zamanli olarak ders vermis, 2013-2014 Egitim-Ögretim Yili itibariyla da tam zamanli ögretim üyesi olarak akademik kadromuza yeniden dahil olmustur.

         Prof. Dr. Gürkan Tekman'in Psychonomic Society, European Society for Cognitive Psychology ve European Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music adli bilimsel derneklerin üyesidir. Dil, bellek ve algi alanlarinda çalisan Prof. Dr. Gürkan Tekman'in armoni algisi, müzik tarzlari ve tercihleri, sözel bellek gibi konularda arastirmalari vardir.
