Z Generation Study Nears Completion

Z Generation Study Nears Completion
The final phase has been reached in the study titled “Journey to a Career Development Model,” conducted in collaboration between Bursa Uludağ University (BUÜ) and the Bursa Organized Industrial Zone Industrialists and Businesspeople Association (BOSİAD). The research examines the expectations of Generation Z in the workforce and the methods employers use to adapt to this new generation.
A briefing session was held at the Bursa OSB Meşelipark Social Facilities. Participants included BUÜ Faculty of Education Dean Prof. Dr. Salih Çepni, Bursa Provincial Directorate of National Education Deputy Director Bülent Altıntaş, BOSİAD Vice Chair and Chair of the Education Commission Özgür Şahin, BUÜ Faculty of Education Dr. Lecturer Hazel Duru, Department of Basic Education Dr. Res. Asst. Muhammed Muzaffer Özhan, and BOSİAD Z Assembly Consultant İpek Gezer.
OUR AIM: INTERGENERATIONAL HARMONY
Speaking at the meeting, BUÜ Faculty of Education Dean Prof. Dr. Salih Çepni noted that differences between traditional management approaches and Generation Z’s expectations can lead to decreased efficiency in the workplace. He underlined the need for effective communication and new management models to ensure harmony across generations.
GENERATION Z AS THE INDUSTRY’S HOPE
BOSİAD Chairman of the Board Rasim Çağan stressed the global importance of the project, explaining that the lack of coherence among Generations X, Y, and Z causes productivity losses in the business environment. He stated their goal is not merely to introduce young people to industry but also to help today’s executives and employers better understand the younger generation.
KEY DATA WITHIN THE PROJECT SCOPE
Dr. Lecturer Hazel Duru said that, within the BOSİAD-BUÜ collaboration, they conducted interviews with a sufficient number of company managers and employees, obtaining extensive data in the process. According to Duru, Generation Z seeks flexible working hours, collaboration, mutual respect, and career development, while employers desire workforce alignment with corporate culture, a sense of responsibility, and productivity. The biggest points of friction involve authoritarian management, lack of belonging, and demands for hybrid work.
INTERNATIONAL-LEVEL FINDINGS
Dr. Res. Asst. Muhammed Muzaffer Özhan highlighted that the research extends beyond the boundaries of Bursa, having been presented at international academic conferences and published in scholarly journals. He explained that employers place significant importance on professional competence, a sense of belonging, and personal qualities during recruitment, whereas university and high school students look for brand value, social media visibility, and direct lines of communication.
