Academic Visit to IZTECH

As part of the TÜBİTAK-supported project A Journey to a STEM-Based Photonic Literacy and Awareness Module: PhoTEM conducted under the leadership of Bursa Uludağ University, an academic visit was made to the Photonics Department of İzmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH). The visit was attended by our Faculty Dean and project coordinator Prof. Dr. Salih Çepni, project researchers Res. Asst. H. Azize Malay and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Umut Aydemir, Vice Chair of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Hosted by Prof. Dr. Canan Varlıktı, faculty member of the IZTECH Photonics Department and project consultant, the meeting focused on strengthening academic collaborations between the two institutions in the field of photonics. Productive discussions were held regarding the upcoming stages of the project and potential areas of joint work. The meeting was also attended by IZTECH research assistants Metin Tan and Hakan Bozkurt, along with MSc student Umut Baran Gündüz.

This visit once again highlighted the importance of efforts aimed at enhancing photonic literacy and awareness among teachers and students.

PhoTEM Project Presented at IZPHOTECH

During the “IZPHOTECH’25” event held on 21–22 October at IZTECH as part of the International Day of Photonics, project researchers Res. Asst. H. Azize Malay, teacher and doctoral student, Tülin Kosukoğlu delivered a presentation introducing the FoTEM project and emphasising the concept of photonic literacy. This scientific platform brought together expert speakers from various universities and industry representatives to share current research findings and innovative approaches in the field of photonics.

The two-day program, which attracted significant interest from researchers, students, and sector representatives, hosted insightful discussions on the future of photonics. The event not only offered an opportunity to celebrate the International Day of Photonics through scientific engagement but also contributed to enhancing the national and international visibility of the FoTEM project.

As the Department of Science Education at Bursa Uludağ University, we are proud to contribute to one of the few pedagogically grounded photonics projects in Türkiye, and we extend our gratitude to the IZTECH Photonics Department for their hospitality and scientific collaboration.
