Bursa Uludağ University (BUÜ) R&D Coordination Office continued its traditional “Meeting of Successful Academics with the Rector” event, which was established with the aim of strengthening its identity as a research university and rewarding academic performance, with a breakfast program held at the Çamlık Dining Hall.
At the event organized with the support of the Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO); Rector Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. İrfan Kırıştıoğlu, Prof. Dr. Zekeriyya Arı, Prof. Dr. Cafer Çiftci, Secretary General Mehmet Aydemir, and our R&D Coordinator Prof. Dr. Esra Karaca came together with academics and congratulated each of them for their achievements.
“THE INCREASE IN ACADEMIC OUTPUT IS OUR GREATEST SOURCE OF JOY”
Rector Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz began his speech by expressing his satisfaction with the publication and project contributions made by academics to the university, stating that the increasing number of participants is their greatest source of motivation. Yılmaz emphasized that the transformation of previously small, interactive meetings into large-scale organizations is a pleasing development; he also noted that Scientific Research Projects (BAP) resources are now being used much more effectively and are being transformed into qualified scientific outputs. Reminding that full support is provided to academics through the newly established Project Office within the Rectorate, Yılmaz added that their goal is to maintain this upward trend and maximize interaction.
BAP PROJECTS ARE TRANSFORMING INTO QUALIFIED SCIENTIFIC OUTPUTS
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. İrfan Kırıştıoğlu presented, with figures, that the steps taken by BUÜ on the path to becoming a “Research University” have started to yield results. Drawing attention especially to the 2025 BAP data, Kırıştıoğlu emphasized that nearly half of the 458 scientific outputs being in quartile rankings and reaching 76 Q1-level publications is a historic achievement. He stated that these figures, which were much lower in previous years, gained momentum with BAP evaluating projects in TÜBİTAK format, and shared his belief that this success will carry the university to a much more distinguished and respected position.
“MAKING EFFORTS VISIBLE INCREASES MOTIVATION”
Our R&D Coordinator Prof. Dr. Esra Karaca stated that they held the second meeting of this event in 2026, which was initiated last year, and expressed that their main aim is to make the efforts of academics visible. She noted that these meetings, which include Q1 publication holders, externally funded project coordinators, and individuals with patents/design registrations, provide both a social and scientific motivational environment. Karaca emphasized that, as of 2026, Q1 publication numbers have doubled based on evaluations conducted via Scopus and that new records are being broken every month, adding that this success will continue to expand.
The program ended after the presentation of certificates to successful academics and a group photo session.
