Bursa Uludağ University (BUU) Project Presented at the ADEP Evaluation Meeting
The project, led by Prof. Dr. Esra Karaca, the Research and Development Coordinator of Bursa Uludağ University (BUU), and supported under the 2023 Research Universities Support Program (ADEP), was presented at a meeting attended by the President of YOK, Prof. Dr. Erol Ozvar.
Prof. Dr. Esra Karaca, the Research and Development Coordinator of BUU and a faculty member at the Faculty of Engineering, shared her project titled “Design, Production, and Characterization of a Domestic Composite Mesh Preventing Hernia Formation and Surgical Adhesion”, supported under the “Smart and Innovative Materials” call, at the ADEP Evaluation Meeting held at Hacettepe University. The meeting was attended by YOK President Prof. Dr. Erol Ozvar, President of the Presidency Strategy and Budget, İbrahim Senel, YOK Vice President Prof. Dr. Haldun Goktas, Executive Board Members Prof. Dr. Erol Arcaklıoglu and Prof. Dr. Arif Bilgin, BUU Rector Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yilmaz, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Irfan Kiristioglu, and the rectors of research universities.
WE WILL CONTINUE TO IMPLEMENT THE SUPPORT PROGRAM
The opening speech of the meeting was made by YOK President Prof. Dr. Erol Ozvar. Prof. Dr. Ozvar stated that in 2024, 400 million TL will be allocated to universities under ADEP. With additional funds from the universities' own resources, a total of 327 projects will receive 503.9 million TL. Emphasizing that the Higher Education Council is committed to continuing to implement support programs for research universities with a focus on quality, Prof. Dr. Ozvar said, "All of our universities need to increase their research capacity and quality. The last 5 years of data show a significant increase in the number of high-quality publications. However, when compared to major scientific circles worldwide, we still need to make significant progress. We need to increase the number of quality publications, currently at 45-46 thousand. Our research universities should be the leading institutions to achieve this.
EXPECTATION OF MORE PROJECTS SERVING NATIONAL POLICY
In his speech, the President of the Presidency Strategy and Budget, Ibrahim Senel, stated that with ADEP, they allocate resources for scientific research projects to research universities based on their annual performance. He announced that the allocated amount for research universities, which was 100 million TL in 2022, had been increased to 250 million TL in 2023.
INFORMATION SHARING ON BUU'S ADEP PROJECT
Prof. Dr. Esra Karaca, who shared the content of the successful project supported by YOK in 2023 and the progress made, also provided information on the goals of the project. Prof. Dr. Karaca explained that the project is being conducted as a multidisciplinary study within BUU, with the project team consisting of Prof. Dr. Sunay Omeroğlu, Prof. Dr. Bilgen Osman, Prof. Dr. R. Gözde Ozalp, Prof. Dr. Ferda Arı, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ozgen Isik, and doctoral student Research Assistant Cansu Aras Gul.
