EDUCATION OBJECTIVE OF TEXTILE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMME

The direction of the competition in the global textile industry has already changed from cost towards quality; therefore, the companies in the Turkish textile sector have to increase their manufacturing quality to higher levels if they want to continue to exist. Some investment is expected  to be made in the Turkish textile sector in the coming years so that the companies of this sector can manufacture high quality textile goods which will replace normal goods. For this reason, the objective of the programme is to train the prospective intermediate technical personnel for textile sector and related areas such as weaving, yarn, finishing and clothing. The workforce to be employed in the sector consists of the textile technicians with the ability to use appropriate software, identify fibers and texture. Theese Textile technicians are able to manufacture products from them using the technology currently available. They are trained well enough to ensure the application of occupational health and safety regulations at workplaces as well as following the advancements in textile technology.

The Programme of Textile Technology

The Textile  Program in the Orhangazi Vacotional High School of Uludag University was established in 1999 and have begun to education in 2000-2001 academic year. The textile programme has started to accept the student for  second education, known as METEP,  since 2005.  A total number of 134 student  have been educated in the textile programme.

Qualification Awarded

This program is subject to the 120 ECTS credits first stage degree system in the field of Textile Technology in higher education. Upon successfully completion of the qualification requirements of the associate degree program, students are awarded by the title of Textile Technician.

Specific Admission Requirements

Candidates must have high school diploma and enough score from YGS-Higher Education Transition Examination. While vocational school graduates are placed without examination high school graduates are placed with the YGS-1 score.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

In order to graduate from Textile Technology  Program and to get the title of Textile technician and associate degree, students must successfully complete all of the compulsory and elective courses (totally equivalent to120 ECTS) and 30 work days industry-based internship.  Overall grade point average must be at least 2.00 out of the 4.00 scale.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Graduates can work all kind of enterprises such as yarn spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing-printing and confection factories and design bureaus.

Access to Higher Degree Programs

Candidates who have completed associate degree training can study bachelor’s degree programs (engineer or technical teacher) if they get a desired grade from DGS (vertical transfer exam) and if they are placed by ÖSYM (Student selection and Placement Centre).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Before the start of each semester, students must register for their courses and in order to admit to the final examinations they must be continued for at least 70% of courses and 80% of practical applications.  Students are subjected to at least one midterm and final exam. For each course the instructor advises students at the beginning of each semester with regard to the requirements for midterm examinations, papers and other assignments, conditions for admission to final examinations, and the weighting of midterm examinations, assignments and other studies in the calculation of the final course grade.The course instructor assigns a grade of between 0 and 100 for each course taken by a student and this grade is known as the raw score. Students must take at least 30 on 100 for each course. A student who has received any of the AA, BA, BB, CB, CC letter grade is considered as successful in that course.  DD and DC are probation passing grades. Students must have a GPA of over 2 to be successful from any course received DD or DC letter grade.

Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate, students must successfully complete all of compulsory and elective courses (120 ECTS), must achieve the overall grade point at least 2.0 on 4.0 scale.

Facilities of Programme

Program is being conducted by 1 academic staff. As well as compulsory courses which applied for development of basic and vocational skills there are also elective courses according to the students’ interests and abilities. The curriculum is designed to cover courses in fiber, yarn, weaving and knitting, dyeing-printing and confection. Theoretical courses are supported by the practical applications, so students gain practical experience. In the current program’s laboratory, as well as practical applications of weaving, knitting, dyeing-printing and garment, physical and chemical tests on the fiber, yarn and fabrics can be done, other aplications must be complated to the technical visitings in related industrials factories.
