COMPUTER CENTER
The information processing activities
in our university have started with a Burroughs multi-user
computer in 1983. Many projects were realized through this computer. The main contribution of this computer
system to our university is that it provided a base
for the formation of the new personnel who are able
to use computers and write software programs. Since
1985, many departments have started to use computers.
With the purchase of computers with
Unix process systems from Digital company, all the projects
were transferred to Unix process system and the variety
in the software languages was provided and transferred
to Progress and Clipper data base programming languages. New projects were developed by using
these programming languages. The following services
are present in our information processing center; Digital
Unix (Domain Name Server), Digital Ultrix, Linux, NT
server Internet Laboratory for general use with 10 PC's,
Novel Windows Laboratory with 12 PC's, Digital Router
(Internet Outlet), Digital Repeater (Coaxiel Multiplier),
Digital DEC Server 700 ( 3 Communication Servers), Digital
HUB (2 UTP Multiplier), Digital Dec HUP 900 (Backbone
Administrator), Optical Reader hardware.
Being one of the few universities
connecting to internet in 1993, Uludağ University has
chosen to use the internet and provide information as its
main goal by showing a rapid development and enabled
the spread of it by organising training courses and
educational activities. The university supports the
necessary investments by its knowledge and experience
to allow the PC connection in the offices of the academic
personnel the opportunity to use the internet tools
from their homes.
In addition,
the Computer Center also
provides the following office services; the registry
information of the students (grades, personal information,
etc.) needed in every department, administration of
academic and other personnel (payroll registry and budget programme) and besides the programmes used in the hospital
and other faculties (Poison Scrutiny, Patient Examination,
Sick Animals Follow-Up and Procreation, Customs, etc.)
and services to various firms ( Gemlik Artificial Silk
Factory, The Chamber of Trade and Commerce, Organised
Industrial Zone, Bursa Municipality BUSKİ, etc.)
The computer facilities of our university
have been expanded due to the improving technology and
the needs of our students and academic personnel.
